My relationship with M. Night Shyamalan is rocky. I loved The 6th Sense, Unbreakable and I am the only person in the world who actually appreciated The Village. The last things he did though, I was not feeling: The Lady in the Water, The Happening, The Last Airbender and After Earth… I have seen them all, but they have not impressed me at all: to the contrary.
But, because I love The Village so much and I am very interested in people with psycho issues, I decided to go to Split. Split is a movie about a man with a lot of personalities, as he is some type of schizophrenic, and he abducts a few girls. It is interestingly enough not really told from his eyes, the viewer is more like a fly on the wall. That is cool, cause it means you sometimes see the story from the girls point of view, or from his point of view: it is very interesting.
The psychiatrist in the movie actually says things about people with psychological issues that I truly agree with. I would never take it as far as this movie does, but I definitely believe that people with issues are definitely not weaker, but stronger than others. Anyway, for the rest of her theory, please watch the movie. I do want to dive into another theory, that of myself, which is a little bit of a spoiler to be honest, so if you haven’t seen the movie, may be stop reading here 😉
At the end of the flick we see a character from an earlier Shyamalan movie, and that really, really makes me expect that our odd director is planning on making his own Marvel universe filled with superheroes, without the Hollywood glamour, but with the super strengths. Super interesting, as that is what Shyamalan is good at: putting realism and paranormal things together. I liked Split, but I was super excited as I came out of the theatre just because of those last few seconds.
It is so genius to me that this might be happening, Shyamalan will probably be able to come up with a lot more interesting beings, so I can’t wait for him to make new movies in that Shyamalan universe of the weird, hihi. What a twist! I bet no one saw that one coming, well done!
