One of my guilty pleasures – Gossip Girl

Remember Beverly Hills 90210? It was the tv show all teenagers would watch in the 90’s, to get their daily dose of rich youngsters getting into all kinds of drama. The newer (and better) version of that is Gossip Girl, which is a tv show that ran from 2007 until 2012. The series is based on the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar, and I have read a few books and they were amazing. I preferred the tv show though.

Gossip Girl is all about the life of Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) that are upperclass girls in New York city. The whole show we wonder who this mysterious Gossip Girl is, that sends teens all over New York all these revealing messages. Six seasons it takes us to find out, but while we are entertained heavily by the lives of these young rich kids (and a few kinda normal ones). Especially the relationship between Blair and Chuck is to die for. It is so cute, it actually made me cry a couple of times.

The series is nice when it comes to drama, good looking people and amazing clothing, but I specifically love it because of the pop culture references that Blair makes. The series is totally over dramatic and not realistic at all, but it is such a nice guilty pleasure to have. It is really something for romantic people, and it is excellent to watch while doing something else. I do want to take this moment to share one of my fave YouTube vids:

Especially number 10 is one where I was just balling my eyes out. Funny thing is that the actor that plays Chuck is actually British, so it is very weird when you hear him talk in interviews. But damn I love this show, with the amazing music (yes, there is even a full episode that only features Frank Ocean music!), super dramatic stuff happening and just a very nice style to it. Amaaaazing!
