So after a very nice sleep in our unromantic bunk beds on the boat (the hut was cute though, very small but the shower was pretty good and we had everything we needed in that little 6 square meter room on the 9th deck of the boat). The intercom woke us up at 8 o clock, two hours before we arrived in Newcastle. It took forever to get off the boat, which was a pity because the slow processes of the border control/customs thingie made us lose a full hour we would rather have spend alone in the city instead of as sardines on a boat, but well, not complaining, we still had a nice time in Newcastle. A bus brought us from the boat to the city, and when we were dropped off at the train station, the first street we walked into was a street with three comic stores.
Oh my freaking goose, three comic stores in one street! It usually is hard enough to find just one! And one of the comic stores was an actual Forbidden Planet, which also has a huuuge store in London that we go to any time any of us is visiting London. It is filled with comics, figurines, card decks, books, merch, other gear, you name it, they have it. It is absolutely amazing, and it is a no-go to not spend any money there. It is just not possible.
So I bought two very cheap comics named Heartbreak Soup and The GIRL from H.O.P.P.E.R.S. (I am always drawn to the cheaper comics, because they are usually not about superheroes ;). I also bought a comic called The Last Man, which was recommended to me by my boyfriend (who has not read it yet, so he just wanted me to buy it I guess 😉 ) and last but not least, a beautiful hardcover edition of the 1st volume of 100 Bullets, a comic that has been recommended to me many times by Twitter followers, friends et cetera.
So, very excited about all the stuff I bought, but we were not done yet! I had made reservations at Jamie’s Italian, which was a very good idea. His restaurant Fifteen in Holland is not that great, pretty disappointing actually, but Jamie’s Italian showed me how amaaaazing that guy is. I knew his food was great, because we often have Jamie Oliver recipes in our HelloFresh box (another topic I really want to blog about soon!), and because a friend of ours is kinda obsessed with him (aah that is not fair to say!) and he always makes his recipes and he is a great cook (the friend!, and Jamie, ofcourse). Jamie’s Italian is a really lovely place. It is nice and spacious, gorgeous interior, very hot spotty and on one of the biggest shopping streets in Newcastle. It was an expensive lunch, around 40 euros for two courses and two lemonades, but it was totally worth it. I had this great squash soup and polenta pie, the boyfriend took a super foods salad which I loved (and he did not) and an EPIC brownie as a dessert. Good life.

Life was getting better, because as we walked into a very big mall, I found out there was a Boots! I love Boots, cause they have one of my favorite brands: Soap Story. I do not even specifically love the smells of their products, but I just love the designs of the bottles with the witty remarks on them. So I bought some things from there, and of course the British Glamour magazine which is insanely pricey in the Netherlands (the imported British one, the Dutch one is cheap, but wayyy less good), and two of my favorite chocolates: Aero’s with mint and chocolate (when will the Dutch brand Bros introduce them here?!) and Cadbury’s Mini-Eggs (which fits perfectly with the whole Mini-Cruise concept right?). Amazing stuff.
At the end when I was waiting for my boyfriend (why do men take such an awful long time to go to the bathroom, what is up with that!?) I went into Paperchase, which is something I really should not do. Secretly I already bought cute cards at Urban Outfitters (to write to my boyfriend when he is going on a few trips without me soon, and I always write him a card each day beforehand, so he can open them on each day during his trip), but Paperchase is sooo much more awesome, so I also bought some cards there. Thankfully he goes on two trips. 😉
I bought an awesome backpack and a very cool pineapple box for my jewelry and then I decided that I was spending way too much money for a girl that does not get salary for another few weeks (new job right?). Plus, we still had to take the expensive ferry home! And it was actually time to get back to the boat, so the boyfriend and I walked back to the train station to take the bus. It was there, it left exactly when we arrived and so we were back in our hut at 5 o clock. We had spent exactly 5 hours in Newcastle, but even though it is a very short while, it was an amazing experience.
Want to know about the trip home? I’ll tell you tomorrow!
